About Sophie

Sophie Hiss is an educator with a PhD in Educational Psychology and more than a decade of experience working with schools to create, design, and develop educational experiences accessible to all children.
As a special education teacher, Sophie created curricula aligned to IEP goals, developed a reading intervention class for students with and without identified disabilities, and routinely led a special education department.
As a high school special education administrator, she ensured accurate and responsive IEP goals, progress monitoring, accommodations and modifications, and other related services for more than 150 students, which led to the school passing five compliance audits over two years.
As a learning specialist at a prestigious university, she trained and provided faculty with tools, such as universal design for learning, to foster an inclusive educational environment in higher education and coached students through the transition from high school to college.
Sophie is happy to call New Orleans home and lives with her partner, their young daughter, and a cat.
